and will it continue as a weekend washout? we'll find out when gwen tolbert down in the weather center. >> good morning. melanie. talking about much-needed rainfall, we could use this and could even use more, but it's not sticking around for very long at well. let's look at live fox 5 doppler radar and show what you we are talking about. most of the rainfall has started to move east of the district. and heading over parts of delmarva, lower southern maryland seeing some of that as well. there have been some pockets of heavier rainfall. we're talking from about a tenth to a half inch per hour. but we need this so desperately and it's all associated with a frontal system. a quick look at true view, it is heading along the mid- atlantic. and cloudy skies lingering behind it. temperatures were seasonal yesterday. here is a look at those numbers for you. 80 degrees at national, 79 at dulles and 78 at baltimore. and right now starting off on the cooler to comfortable side. 65 degrees now at d.c. 63 at gaithersburg. 61 at hagerstown. here is what we're talking about today. over cast skies with the showers. po
and will the nice weekend continue through the d.c. area? plenty of sunshine. gwen tolbert is tracking things down in the weather center. >> let's begin with what is happening with earl. take a look at our maps. earl is now post-tropical. it is moving into the atlantic losing it's tropical characteristics moving into the cold water and it will start to fizzle out. not a wheat lot happening with it -- a whole lot happening with it right now. and there are no discoveried in terms of the system. it left a lot of power outages and strong winds and trees down but right now it is he had -- just heading out to the ocean. it will become a memory. for some not a very good one. here at home, things are calm and quiet. clear skies. a ridge of high pressure in control. temperatures started out in the lower 50s and now starting to rise. 53 degrees in the district. 56 at dulles. and 55 at baltimore. and here is a look at your day planner as we move through into the course of the afternoon. by the time we hit midday we'll be into the mid-70s and then our high today will be about 81 degrees. but no shortage of su

their pets and themselves out for a little bit of fun. let's check in with gwen tolbart at the wet center. we needed that rain, right? gwen? >> reporter: we definitely needed that rain, maureen. it put a little bit of a dent in the deficit for us. let's take a look he at the satellite rain composite and show you the rain that moved through today. and behind it all mainly just some cloudy skies across the area. a little bit of a clearing trend as we move into the overnight hours. look at what we are keeping a close eye on. it is a huge large powerful hurricane just churning its way through. this is hurricane igor which from this morning, into the course of this afternoon, went from a category one to a category four hurricane. unbelievable. this thing has got a huge impact with it. and temperature-wise right now, we are actually into the 6 40s pretty much everywhere. pretty comfortable outside. cool into the overnight hours. talking some partly cloudy skies. into the overnight see some patchy fog up to 60 degrees for the overnight low. look at the full forecast for you and that five day. we wil
for the rest of the day? gwen tolbert is down in the weather center tracking things for us. >> hi, melanie. we've had a stellar weekend. and hopefully people did get out to enjoy it. and today we'll do well also. let's begin with a look at where we hit temperatures. we were right on the mark for national airport, 79 degrees, where we should be. 79 for dulles and 76 at bwi. as far as sky conditions are concerned, they are fairly clear. here is a look at the current temperatures. a cool start to the morning. just feeling the little tiny pinch of fall weather. 55 degrees at gaithersburg this hour. 63 at washington and national airport. 59 at baltimore. 57 in dulles and 54 to the west in winchester. and speaking of igor, a huge storm. 190 miles south of bermuda, it's a dangerous storm, expected to pass over the island of bermuda into tonight. maximum sustained winds are at 85 miles per hour with higher gusts and it is expected to leave anywhere from 6-9 inches of rainfall and also you mentioned the wave heights and coastal areas are going to be effected by the strong storm surge so we'll have more
